Everyone dreams of venturing into the entrepreneurial world, and they intend to do so by trying their hands into some low budget businesses. These businesses, if executed properly, can fetch them huge profits with the least probability of failure. So today in this article, we are going to present to all our readers some great business ideas that one can reckon to start with a small budget of INR 25,000 to INR 50,000 or US $400 to US $800.

With that being said, we promise to you that you will inevitably earn a tremendous amount of money if you start any of these businesses by giving your best efforts. We are highlighting Indian currency, but our article is applicable for businesses in all currencies, countries, region or race so that you can start your business anywhere and anytime. The best part about these businesses is that you can start them as a part-time business and convert them in full time once transaction comes into place.

Take a look at the list of business ideas that you can opt from if you have a budget of around Rs 25k to Rs 50k.

1. Shopify

Budget Needed Product Wise-

  • Shopify Store– $29 to $299 per month, depending on the choice of features
  • Setup Cost- Free
  • Domain- Rs. 699/year. (Free)
  • Hosting- Included in the setup cost. Additionally, it can be done at Rs. 2000- Rs. 3000/year with Siteground which have excellent services.

Shopify is an e-commerce platform that gives space and tools to online sellers and retailers to create e-commerce websites with different attractive designs. It facilitates this process by allowing them to create an account on Shopify and sell various products. The site has direct contact with multiple sellers who procure products from multiple popular sites and sell them on their own Shopify website. The crucial element to take care of is that shipping is taken care of by these online sellers only.

Selling products on Shopify is a lucrative business option for budding entrepreneurs who are looking for online business ideas. Here entrepreneurs can sell their own products or can choose from millions of products which are available in Shopify showcase. Let us assume an entrepreneur selects 10-15 products from a particular site, sets them at a higher price point and sells them on his website by attaching those products. When a customer buys any of those products, they are actually buying products that are listed on the site from where the products were selected. He only needs to advertise his products on various channels, either by social media or by google ad sense. The rest would be taken care of by Shopify.

However, billing and trading take place on his own website. So, the customer actually pays money to his website on Shopify. After delivery, the entrepreneur gets his commission within a month. On the other hand, in case an entrepreneur is choosing from his own product range; in this case, shipping will be solely in the hands of the entrepreneur only.

2. Selling on E-Commerce Websites

Budget Needed Product Wise-

  • The budget depends on the type of products that you are dealing with.

For a stringent budget of up to Rs 50,000, an entrepreneur can buy bulk products directly from a manufacturer at a certain amount and then sell these products at a much higher margin on various e-commerce players online. These products can vary from as small as items like speakers and headphones to something as big as furniture. Referral fees for selling on Amazon range from 6% to 20% of the sales price.

For pro-sellers, a monthly plan of Amazon is available for $39.99 while it is free for Individual selling plan and charges $0.99 on each item sold. So, for the budget in the range of Rs. 25,000- Rs 50,000, we need to select less expensive products with high margins like small speakers, headphones, and fidget spinners and so on and start selling them with the free plan. For instance, you can buy a specific product, let us say fidget spinner in bulk from a local manufacturer for INR 100 and sell it to end users at INR 600 or above depending on the make and additional features and make a considerable profit on every selling deal.

Various e-commerce sites like Alibaba specialize in such a business model where one can buy products in bulk and then sell them online at a much higher margin. One can also give discounts to consumers for bulk orders. Buy products in bulk from Alibaba at cheap rates and sell at high rates on other ecommerce sites if you cannot contact manufacturers. However, in these cases, margins would be small. Sites like these are an ideal marketplace for manufacturers, suppliers, exporters, importers, buyers, and wholesalers to come together on a common platform. Read More

3. Tiffin Service

The budget needed for 50 plates (at the cost of Rs. 60) per day for a month-

  • Vegetables- Rs. 5,000 per day
  • Spices and Condiments- Rs. 4,000 per day
  • Packing materials- Rs. 100 per day
  • Delivery boy- Rs. 5000/month
  • Transportation- Rs. 5,000-Rs 10,000 (one time cost) optional
  • Advertisement (Pamphlets)- Rs, 3,000 per month
  • Social Media- Depends on your budget, but on a normal level, it is free

A well-thought and well-executed tiffin or catering business is an excellent business opportunity that is becoming a personal favorite for a lot many entrepreneurs. Especially for singles who are staying away from home and working in metro cities, there is a high demand for tiffin service. Moreover, so, this kind of business is a viable option for someone who is passionate about cooking and has excellent business acumen.

You can begin by contacting corporate buildings with lots of offices that can easily fetch you 50-60 customers in the first month. Distribute pamphlets in offices and encourage word of mouth advertising. For a single plate that you make for Rs. 35 or Rs. 40, including the cost of cooking, packaging, and delivery, you can sell it for a price of Rs. 60 and easily save Rs. 20 per Tiffin. You can also give bulk monthly discounts for permanent customers. So, if you are selling, let us say, 50 plates in a day at Rs. 60 each, you are easily saving Rs. 1000 per day, or up to Rs. 30,000 per month.

4. Bulk Domain Buying

Budget Needed Product Wise-

  • Domain- 699 per domain
  • Premium Domain Selling Service at GoDaddy– starting from 20% commission fee for a domain of selling price up to $5,000. The price increases depending on the sale price of the domain.

Bulk domain buying is a prevalent business option for business enthusiasts with technical expertise. One can register as many domains as they want at once. Let us say you buy 50 domains on ‘tuition’ keyword in Delhi/NCR like ‘tuition in Gurgaon,’ ‘best tuition classes,’ ‘English classes,’ and so on. Each domain costs you Rs. 699. Then, at the right time, you can put these domains on sale at GoDaddy in their ‘premium domain’ section. Moreover, you advertise it on various social media platforms, on relevant groups titled ‘Domain buying and selling’ and so on.

Initially, you sell every domain for Rs. 5000. So, even if you can sell 10% of the domains, you can get instant results. Moreover, you can sell some domains at a higher price point like Rs. 1 lakh or even more if you are lucky enough to buy some good domains.

A similar scenario came when technology giant Google Inc. forget to renew their domain. Luckily for an Ex-Googler, this came out to be a turning point where he instantly purchased it for only $12. All he did was to keep on searching for Google domains rigorously and their website buying service until he found out that the domain ‘google.com’ was available for sale. Eventually, Google decided to pay him over $10,000 to purchase it back from him. Similarly, Mark Zuckerberg bought the domain ‘internet.org.’ So, anyone with good knowledge of domain buying and with a good back history can easily buy domains in bulk and earn a significant amount by selling them.

5. Selling Fresh Website

Budget Needed Product Wise-

Increasingly, many people are involving themselves in the business of buying a new domain. Let us say that you buy a new domain for Rs. 699. You work on that domain, improve its content, look and feel and target a specific niche to help that particular audience. You also target various social media groups and improve the reachability of the domain. Once the domain is up and ready, you sell it in 6 months at a price that is 10 times higher than what you bought it for.

6. Road Side Fast Food Business

Budget Needed Product Wise (For a momos/ dumplings business)-

  • Raw Momos- Rs. 10 for 10 pcs
  • Cart Rent- Rs. 100 per day
  • Assistant at the stall- Rs. 5,000-Rs 8,000 per month
  • Serving plates- Re. 1 per plate
  • Cost of chutney- Rs. 5 per month
  • Cooking gas- Rs. 5,000 per month

Starting a roadside food stall at various busy locations, usually outside shopping malls, corporate areas and so on is a yet another profitable business idea for entrepreneurs seeking to start a business at a low budget. Considering the local demographics, you can start a food business that deals with selling momos, Chinese food, bread, omelet, or any other food item of your choice.

Consider for example, if you plan to start a roadside Momos business. You can easily pick a convenient location to set up a stall, which is busy and a convenient location for momos eaters. The rent for setting up a cart in that location can be Rs. 100 per day or more, depending on the location. You can hire a seller boy for a salary of Rs. 5,000-Rs 8,000 per month and buy raw momos at a price of Re. 1 per pc.

So, the maximum cost of each plate, consisting of 10 pcs of momos would be Rs. 12 including the cost of chutney and serving plate and you can sell for Rs. 30 or above. Thus, you can easily earn a profit of Rs. 18 per plate and if you are selling 100 plates in a day, the profit for the day can be Rs. 1,800. Monthly, you can easily earn Rs. 30,000- Rs. 40,000.

7. Grocery

Budget Needed Product Wise-

  • Buying vegetables- Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 per day initially
  • Delivery charges- Rs. 10,000 per month

Many times, in big cities, it becomes difficult to find fresh and chemical free vegetables as most of them are injected with chemicals and pesticides. Moreover, for that reason, starting your own grocery business can be an excellent business option.

The key is to buy fresh fruits and vegetables directly from the farmers. These farmers have their farms on the outskirts of major cities from where you can get the supply delivered. You can then sell these products directly to customers at a higher price point, removing the need for an intermediate grocery store. Let us say you buy fresh tomatoes straight from the farmer at Rs. 20 per kg while he was selling them for Rs. 15 to wholesalers.

So, where average quality tomatoes are sold in the market for Rs. 40 per kg, even if you sell your bought produce at Rs. 60, people will buy it because those will be of fresh and chemical free tomatoes and customers would not have to visit stores and market to buy them. One thing that can be done is to deal with people in nearby societies beforehand and keep them informed about your future business. Branding is not needed, and Word of mouth can be of great help in this case. Meet societies’ RWA and Presidents, so they help you reach to more people within the society.

8. Fresh Juices & Shakes Business

Budget Needed Product Wise-

  • 20 kg of fruits per day (orange or mousambi) – Rs. 400
  • Shop Rent- Rs. 10,000 per month
  • Cost of Mixer- Rs. 3,500 (one time cost)
  • Electricity- 2,000 per month
  • Ice silo- Rs. 200 for 20 kilos/day
  • Salt and Sugar- Rs. 5000 per month

Starting fresh juices and/or milkshakes business is one of the most attractive business opportunity for many entrepreneurs, anywhere in the world. Especially because of the meager cost of buying fruits and vegetables in bulk from the farms directly, this business guarantees huge profit margins.

Let us say you intend to start fresh fruit business. If you might have noticed, the cost of buying the smallest glass of orange juice is Rs. 20 and goes up to Rs. 80 for the larger glass. So, you can buy fruits in bulk from the wholesale market, set up a shop at a convenient location, usually in the outskirts of cities like areas close to colleges and universities. So, for a mere calculation of Rs. 10 investment for a single glass of juice, that includes 2 to 3 fruits in a glass, you can easily sell for Rs. 20-Rs. 30.

Another preferable option is to start an Ice Cone (Gola) business. A cart can be rented for Rs. 100 per day and Ice can be purchased for Rs. 200 for a 20 kg ice. Cost of colors and flavoring agents can be Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2000 per month. You can then sell a single ice cone for Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 and make huge profits.

9. Honey Production Business

Budget Needed Product Wise-

  • Buying bee pollen powder- Rs. 100 per kg
  • Wooden Beehive frame- Rs. 20 per pc
  • Equipment (beehive frame- 1)- Rs. 5000 (one time cost)
  • Packaging- Rs. 10,000 per month
  • Advertising- Rs. 2,500 per month

Another lucrative business idea is to start a honey production business. Select a convenient location to set up your bee farm. Alternatively, in the interest of your budget, select a location close to the bee farms. Purchase bees and beehive from a local beekeeper. Ideally, a 3-pound package of bees would contain around 10,000 bees. The three bees you would need are Queen bees, Worker Bees, and the Drone bees.

While the queen bee is responsible for laying eggs and lay up to 1,000 eggs at a time, the worker bees perform all the production task. The drone bees are responsible for making the queen bees pregnant. A bee making process takes somewhere around 15 days or a month to produce honey. Once it is ready, you can then package your product and sell it for Rs. 500 for a 1 kg bottle.

10. Pickle Making

Budget Needed Product Wise-

  • Ingredients- Rs. 5,000 per month
  • Jars- Rs. 5,000 per month
  • 200 kg. Lemons- Rs. 10,000
  • Women making pickle- Rs. 5000 per month

It is a common sight in cities where entrepreneurial mid-aged ladies indulge in the traditional art of pickle making. Well, now with their expertise, you can think of starting your own business provided it is well executed.

You can easily start a pickle-making business from the comfort of your home. You can either manufacture the pickle yourself or hire a small team who can do that for you. Let us say you plan on selling lemon pickles. You buy fresh lemons from the market at Rs. 20 per kg. Hire a lady who can prepare pickle for you for Rs. 5000 per month. Buy condiments and spices for Rs. 5,000. Once the pickle is ready (lemon pickle takes 2 months), package and sell them at a starting cost of Rs. 400 per bottle, assuring great profits in return. So, if you sell 100 bottles in a month, you can easily sell all the jars for Rs. 40,000, and earn a profit of Rs 15,000 per month.

11. Chips Making

Budget Needed Product Wise-

  • Cost of potatoes- Rs. 200 per 5 kg
  • Oil- Rs. 2000
  • Utensils- Rs. 5,000 (one time cost)
  • Packaging- Re.1 per pc

Chips are a popular snack option, no matter what part of the world you are in. Moreover, starting chips making business is an excellent business idea because of the low production cost involved. You can start a potato, banana, sweet potato or any other chips business, depending upon your area of expertise and taste preferences.

Let us say you buy potatoes in wholesale at Rs. 200 for 5 kg and set up a small cooking area. Buy all the necessary utensils, oil and condiments. Once the product is ready, you can package them in attractive packaging and sell them for a price starting from Rs. 20 per packet weighing 30g, instead of the 10g pack available in the market for the same price. So, if you sell 500 packets in a month, you can easily sell them for Rs. 10,000 and earn a profit of Rs. 2,000- Rs. 3,000.

    Hi,
Thanks for the information, it’s very very useful.
I am looking for low investment business ideas and came across agarbatti making in one of your business ideas listed.
How about paper plate making with buyback? As per the blogs and responses from various people around the country, looks like there are too many fraud companies who give buyback guarantee with the machine.
Do you suggest with this paper plate making with buyback and any inputs on genuine companies in Bangalore or nearby places in south india?

    Please help with our thoughts.

      Hi Sashi,

Paper plate business is also a wonderful business idea, my staff is even working on it to collect some good data on it.
But to be honest I never prefer to go with such offers (buyback offers) which you are planning to go with. I never trust such things because max power is not in my hand in such cases.
      You can do one thing.
Buy a machine of your own and start selling your paper plates or cups on your own to stores, shops and to other vendors. This way you can increase your business to a great extent.
If you need guidance regarding business plan, advertising, sales, etc then you can write it to me on my email.

Hope it will help you 🙂

Now you can sell your Agarbatti in offline as well as online market depending on how you are planning.
For offline Market- Associate shopkeepers by giving a good deal (remember I am saying a good deal, not a good price).

I am planning to start Mukhwas (Mouth Freshener) manufacturing/ packing in 2 Rs pack form (all natural ingredients like fennel seed, sugar-coated fennel seed, etc). How should I proceed? Can you please send me a detailed plan or suggestion on my email id?
And what are the do’s and don’ts to start this business?

The only suggestion that I can give you is to focus on a niche market.
And no one will give you detailed plans for free, it requires a lot of energy and resources to produce detailed reports. So contact agencies who can do this for you, if you don’t have contacts then I give you some good names. Usually, this kind of research will cost you between Rs 1 to 10 lakhs depending on the target market and product.
